There is definitely something special about Africa, a place on earth like no other as Attenborough would say. If you love animals and adventure this is somewhere you cannot miss! I went on this trip with my mum as it has been somewhere she has always wanted to go and as we grow up we need to take opportunities to just do it, just go and experience these things with your loved ones while you can. We booked with Tucan Tour; 12 night overland tour starting in Pretoria, South Africa and ending in Livingstone, Zambia where the mighty Victoria Falls roars. And as everyone always says, its the tour group that makes the trip what it is… well its true. We had 2 pretty special tour guides, a local driver and a amazing group of all ages, who some now will be friends for life. Even though 12 nights doesnt sound long it really was the perfect amount as there were no transits to airports to fly anywhere; its overland on the truck (bus) whatever you want to call it as we werent allowed to call it a bus (long story)! As im usually that person who organizes everything, it was so refreshing to just sit back and go with the flow.
If you are travelling North/East Africa you most likely will have to fly unless you have endless amount of time off work to take your time overland. But working fulltime this was just perfect to see such an incredible part of the world, as sometimes you can forget how what is out there.
Yes we all have heard & some known that South Africa isnt safe… but at the moment there are many places in this world where something could happen so please dont let this stop you from seeing such a beautiful continent. While off the tour I would say that Uber definitely eased the stress of travelling around South Africa, we met some very friendly locals this way too who just made your day even if it was only a short conversation, their happy energy just rubs off! We stayed Airbnb the first and last night of our trip. If you have stayed with locals through Airbnb you will understand how different your experience is compared to staying at hotels, you honestly feel like your at home away from home. And I cannot wait to book my next trip to see what the rest of Africa has to offer!
